Last summer, me and a friend of mine decided to go to Kitzbühel (Tirol, Austria) to do some hiking on the dangerous and famous “Streif”.
Getting there & our room
We took the train from Upperaustria to Innsbruck and after a short stay another one to Kitzbühel. There we had a room in the backpackers of Kitzbühel, the cheapest one (but not cheap at all ;))
The hike
The 2 1/2 – 3 hour walk up the Streif starts at the valley station on the street until you’re going to get into the wood that leads to the hiking trail up the Streif. It’s easy to find the right way – just follow the signs to “Hahnenkamm” and you will see all the famous parts of the Streif like Ganslernalm, Seidlalm, Lerchenschuss, Hausbergkante, Mausefalle and in the end you will end up at the start gate on the “Hahnenkamm”.
Skiing-Fans: All the famous and interesting parts of the Streif are marked and there is information available everywhere.
A stop that i really enjoyed was a short stay at the small lake up on the Streif – it is easy to find, there is an amazing view and it super refreshing.
I would recommend the hike to everybody who loves to hike – but you should be able to walk up a mountain, it’s not really difficult, but also not that easy – don’t forget: you’re hiking up a mountain!
